Here are my top three tips on how to shop more sustainably this Christmas: </div><div><br /></div><div>1. Shop Secondhand </div><div>I'm always an advocate for secondhand shopping and this includes Christmas gifts. There are so many potential gift options in charity shops and antique stores as well as online on Ebay and Vinted. And many things are brand new.</div><div> </div><div>2. Shop Local </div><div>Christmas is the perfect time to support your local independent shops and they are an ideal place to discover unique gifts whilst also supporting the local economy. </div><div><br /></div><div>3. Shop Independent</div><div>If you can't find what you're looking for in your local indie shops, check out small businesses online. Etsy is a haven for independent businesses and your guaranteed to be abled to find the perfect gift. Some of my favourite independent businesses are: <a href="https://andchai.co.uk/" target="_blank">&Chai</a>, <a href="https://www.etsy.com/uk/shop/TaylorandLucas" target="_blank">Taylor and Lucas</a>, <a href="https://www.illuminecandleco.co.uk/" target="_blank">Illumine Candles</a> and <a href="https://www.helenoftroyboutique.com/" target="_blank">Helen of Troy Boutique</a>.</div><div><br /></div><div>4. Quality Over Quantity </div><div>Around half of UK adults say they received unwanted gifts each year and approximately 19% of all unwanted gifts end up in landfill. Instead of buying lots of gifts you *hope* someone might like, why not buy one/a few gifts you know they will absolutely love. I tend to only buy people things they have specifically asked for or things I know they definitely like. </div><div><br /></div><div><br /></div>

I've been trying to make my wardrobe more sustainable for around 5 years by shopping secondhand and avoiding fast fashion but something I need to improve on is how much I consume. It's estimated that in the UK two tonnes of clothing are bought every minute which produces around 50 tonnes of carbon emissions [<a href="https://www.oxfam.org.uk/oxfam-in-action/oxfam-blog/new-shocking-facts-about-the-impact-of-fast-fashion-on-our-climate/#:~:text=It's%20estimated%20that%20more%20than,162%2C000%20miles%20in%20a%20car." target="_blank">source</a>].<div><br /></div><div>Throughout my life I have always had a habit of buying the clothes I like the look of and not always really considering whether I will get a lot of wear out of them. But this seems quite pointless and wasteful. Why buy something if it's just going to sit in your wardrobe and not be worn? Surely it's better to only buy something that you know you will wear a lot and works with your style. </div><div><br /></div><div>To work towards my fashion goals for the year, I have been trying to make more thoughtful purchases and only adding items to my wardrobe if I really need to. Here are my tips for consuming less and making more considered purchases:</div><div><b><br /></b></div><div><b><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhVpqD091iPM9NJyvHe1DW4WrItb5jVAs3msAYsyVa8qejRpJKYhMBY0anyOvAhSo_2d4gKArpn4fxZcAz_VQvSMubtBDDQclmZ09dwWxrNroO7ga5w292X8Iw6Bq6CbVHXQoKXtSMBMqIH1EuHUHiRwVoZLNZfhsNcb465F7ZOrldbtTUldn4fjt5t/s5184/Image%20-%20Copy.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="5184" data-original-width="3456" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhVpqD091iPM9NJyvHe1DW4WrItb5jVAs3msAYsyVa8qejRpJKYhMBY0anyOvAhSo_2d4gKArpn4fxZcAz_VQvSMubtBDDQclmZ09dwWxrNroO7ga5w292X8Iw6Bq6CbVHXQoKXtSMBMqIH1EuHUHiRwVoZLNZfhsNcb465F7ZOrldbtTUldn4fjt5t/w266-h400/Image%20-%20Copy.jpeg" width="266" /></a></div>Conduct a Wardrobe Audit:</b> I think a wardrobe audit is a great place to start. Figure out what you already own, get rid (sell, giveaway and donate) items you no longer wear or don't fit and identify any gaps in your wardrobe. This will give you a clearer idea of what is already in your wardrobe.</div><div><br /></div><div><b>Don't make Impulse Purchases:</b> Sometimes it's hard not to make impulse purchases. I find this to particularly be the case when shopping secondhand - clothes are usually more affordable and sometimes one-off and unique pieces so it feels like it would be stupid not to. If I see something I like I tend to add it to a list or ask myself "what else can I wear this with" - see below!</div><div><br /></div><div><b>Make a List:</b> If you find yourself lusting after a particular item or see something you like, add it to a list. If you keep thinking about that item over and over again and can see how it would add value to your wardrobe then chances are it would be a worthwhile purchase. By adding it to a list it gives you time to really consider whether you actually need the item or whether it is simply an impulse buy.</div><div><b><br /></b></div><div><b>Ask Yourself, "What can I wear this with?":</b> There's not much point in buying something if it doesn't work with what you already own. I try to only buy something new if I can identify lots of different ways I can style the new item, otherwise I know I won't get a lot of wear out of it.</div><div><b><br /></b></div><div><b><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgwSuR5neNgo-r7evmBUSPyPc8v5io8zwL-j-1Nvab8_ut6T9xPaim2uYLm7YWqoNFDsQsk2d5EfhL2pQ7sxRtnI7UQ8nvCDhokD0-6tAL5Y11uBmO0zsaLJ9MS7THtJ8XLxHuoPpVOfaRNJK9Eh5KJeBTaHveYKf2NcblDPTzpEd48S4MLoMg8bezl/s5184/Image%20-%20Copy%20(3).jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="3456" data-original-width="5184" height="266" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgwSuR5neNgo-r7evmBUSPyPc8v5io8zwL-j-1Nvab8_ut6T9xPaim2uYLm7YWqoNFDsQsk2d5EfhL2pQ7sxRtnI7UQ8nvCDhokD0-6tAL5Y11uBmO0zsaLJ9MS7THtJ8XLxHuoPpVOfaRNJK9Eh5KJeBTaHveYKf2NcblDPTzpEd48S4MLoMg8bezl/w400-h266/Image%20-%20Copy%20(3).jpeg" width="400" /></a></div>What is it made of?:</b> Recently I have been considering what my clothes are made of more and more. I am opting for natural materials over plastic based fibres as they are longer lasting and it reduces the amount of <a href="https://www.fashionrevolution.org/our-clothes-shed-microfibres-heres-what-we-can-do/#:~:text=Microfibres%20are%20a%20type%20of,goes%20to%20sewage%20treatment%20facilities." target="_blank">microplastics released when washing.</a></div><div><br /></div><div><b>Shop Around</b>: When I'm looking to add a new staple piece to my wardrobe, I like to shop around in charity shops and on Vinted to find something that will work with my wardrobe and and last a long time. I opt for items that are made well and are unlikely to need replacing again soon.</div><div><br /></div><div>These are just a handful of tips that have helped me to reduce my consumption and make more thoughtful purchases and I'm always open to more suggestions. </div><div><br /></div><div>

Buy Better -</b> For 2023 I want to invest in more pieces whether that's secondhand or from sustainable brands. I want to avoid buying fast fashion secondhand where possible and opt for vintage and better quality clothing that I know will last a long time. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><b>3. Keep Track of My Purchases -</b> This was something I wanted to do for 2022 but it just didn't happen. At the end of the year I want to be able to see exactly what I have been spending my money on and hopefully this will also encourage me to buy less and really consider each purchase I make. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><b><br /></b></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><b>What are your fashion goals for 2023?</b></div></div></div><div><br /></div><br /><div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjEY9AFrYE3OqkcU2DVmV2YafFO03R8tD7J4jHvluexojshL99sV380JpPbDJ7td4AZoRpDurBStFRpU5_uttN7r20Yg9MiY30tC1r7jNntc9zFI0pEb5j8WS6oB0RWXLuwUNd8fRvbfKWQ5pKpsi9_ouJl4onVTkhGtWEyPRcHOglmE0IfxSU1lVc7/s1080/2.png" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1080" data-original-width="1080" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjEY9AFrYE3OqkcU2DVmV2YafFO03R8tD7J4jHvluexojshL99sV380JpPbDJ7td4AZoRpDurBStFRpU5_uttN7r20Yg9MiY30tC1r7jNntc9zFI0pEb5j8WS6oB0RWXLuwUNd8fRvbfKWQ5pKpsi9_ouJl4onVTkhGtWEyPRcHOglmE0IfxSU1lVc7/s16000/2.png" /></a></div></div><div><br /></div>

So far, I've started the year on a positive note and have high hopes for the year ahead. <div><br /></div><div>Something I have been thinking a lot about recently is my sustainable fashion choices. Whilst last year I only bought only a few new, non-secondhand items, I did shop secondhand a lot last year and oftentimes, it was when I didn't actually <i>need</i> the items. Realising this has made me realise that whilst I'm making a conscious effort to not buy fast fashion, I still purchase quite a lot of clothes that I probably don't need. Whilst I might be doing a good job of not buying from fast fashion brands, my level of consumption is much greater than I would like it to be and, as I am learning more about, our level of consumption is also a huge issue in terms of sustainability. This got me onto thinking about setting some sustainable fashion goals for the year ahead to keep me in check.</div><div><br /></div><div><b>1. Keep a Record of What Clothes I Buy</b> - Towards the end of 2021, I saw a lot of people doing overviews of what they had bought that year and it inspired me to want to keep track of the clothes I purchase throughout the year. I'm hoping that in doing this act, it will encourage me to not buy clothes when I don't necessarily need them or if they won't add value to my wardrobe, which brings me onto my second goal.</div><div><br /></div><div><b>2. Stop Buying As Much</b> - Something that I have realised it that, I can go into a charity shop and see something that I like that's in my size and walk out the door without purchasing it. <b>Just because I like something it doesn't mean I have to buy it. Groundbreaking right?</b> There's something about secondhand shopping that makes it feel like fate when you see some beautiful dress that's in your size, you kind of feel like you <i>have </i>to buy it. I want a more curated wardrobe that's full of clothes that I love rather than clothes that I bought because it seemed like fate at the time but don't actually wear. </div><div><br /></div><div style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEhJMOmYmfkg12gCQaB9kUB6va8D0NdUl3A4lghherVhn6R0J4OZ-puKYd5R-AVM7tiaQS-MW5iF2gJMAKqSvXsTr4if6sF8nImhmrdLWw4wO4ywbK2ltfDcdJVF9PeJPrkquQOVuNnueTy30B9gdJFLp5KuXtRfQ-eYUN6U5uZ1_R3x_LefiPtdK9x9=s4032" imageanchor="1"><img border="0" data-original-height="3024" data-original-width="4032" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEhJMOmYmfkg12gCQaB9kUB6va8D0NdUl3A4lghherVhn6R0J4OZ-puKYd5R-AVM7tiaQS-MW5iF2gJMAKqSvXsTr4if6sF8nImhmrdLWw4wO4ywbK2ltfDcdJVF9PeJPrkquQOVuNnueTy30B9gdJFLp5KuXtRfQ-eYUN6U5uZ1_R3x_LefiPtdK9x9=s16000" /></a></div><div><br /></div><div><b>3. Conduct a Wardrobe Audit </b>- Only I can make a massive clothes-trying-on session sounds like a boring administrative task. Every now and then I think it's smart to have a day where you try on every single piece of clothing that you own. Yes, that's right. Every. Single. Item. Well, maybe not all your socks but you get the picture.<b> By doing this, you fall back in love with pieces that were stuffed at the back of your wardrobe or thought were unflattering. </b>It helps you to find more ways to wear your clothes and makes you feel inspired by your own stuff. </div><div><br /></div><div><b>4. Re-wear. Re-wear...and re-wear again! </b>- I'm an outfit repeater and I'm not ashamed to admit that. If you're a long time follower of my blog then you will know this! However, in 2022, I want to make sure that I do this more often. I don't want to buy more clothes for specific occasions or feel like I need to buy more clothes. I want to appreciate what I already have and I'm hoping that my wardrobe audit will help me achieve this </div><div><br /></div><div><b>5. Invest? Oh yes, well...invest! </b>(If you got the quote then hats off to your my friend and if not then <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7HHhlPCZrPA" target="_blank">watch this</a>) - I'm good at shopping secondhand but something that I'm not so good at is investing in forever pieces. Having always been a thrifty shopper, spending a large amount of money on a singular piece of clothing does scare me a little bit. I have never really bought an expensive, made to last piece of clothing. Even all my Dr Martens have either been passed down to me or been given to me as a birthday/Christmas gift (which I acknowledge is a privilege).<b> Going forward, if I need to replace something in my wardrobe, I want to consider if investing in a higher quality option from a sustainable brand</b> that would last me <i>years and years (hopefully)</i> would be a better use of my money, not to mention a much better option for the planet. </div><div><br /></div><div>I'm hoping that by setting these goals they can keep me on track of maintaining a sustainable wardrobe and keep my consumption levels in check. </div><div><br /></div><div>What are your goals for 2022?</div><div><br /></div><div><br />

Each year I try and shop sustainably and most of the time I end up not doing so well at it but this year I am determined to do better. <div><br /></div><div>I want to share with you some tips I am trying out in order to give more sustainably this festive season.</div><div><br /></div><div><b>1. "What's on Your Christmas List?"</b></div><div>This year I've gone a bit brutal and I'm working on a policy of "if you don't tell me what you want, you're not going to get much". Gone are the days of trying to think of gift ideas and scrambling around to make sure I've bought people enough gifts. Personally, I'd much rather buy my loved ones things they actually want or need to avoid giving them random stuff that will get thrown into the cupboard and never see the light of day. </div><div><br /></div><div>I started early this year and in around October, I started asking people to make lists of things they wanted for Christmas to ensure their gifts will be used and loved and not be a waste. This also helps to avoid that guilt we all feel way to often during the holiday season - you know the guilty feeling you get when you can tell someone really thought you'd love that gift but, unfortunately, you just dont?</div><div><br /></div><div><b>2. Preparation is key!</b></div><div>Being prepared for Christmas certainly helps when it comes to sustainable gift giving. It's best to try and make a plan in advance so you know what to buy, where to buy it from and when to buy it. No more panic buying from Amazon the week before the 25th!</div><div><br /></div><div><b>3. Shop Small</b></div><div>This year, I'm trying my hardest to buy all of my gifts from small, independent companies. Once people have told me what they want for Christmas, I head straight to Etsy to find these gifts. Alternatively, heading down to the local <a href="https://www.amyleehaynes.co.uk/2017/12/feeling-festive.html" target="_blank">Christmas market </a>or finding some small independent gems on the high-street will allow you to avoid spending your money with the big companies.</div><div><br /></div><div>If you're feeling a bit stuck, I find the <a href="https://www.facebook.com/groups/844362333048622/" target="_blank">Not on Amazon Facebook page</a> really helpful. It's simply a Facebook page where people share their small and often handmade businesses to help you avoid those big nasty corporations.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEhlAy_s3Hdt5qAfuI1FAqVGI5OaNzRdWn0SL3TvnK2JOozL702fKvtkjB3kZO-RQNFemkUXDJnS0b4EEyiQnHV-xklFaqTnlerP5gHDo2DtC4VoEaRi6u-d2pXyi9DM6Ns5ywYdsiWxgqnfsu6WsBTrbfDdIz9qYzzijKPRt9D_MHgaWjldvKxnsEcs=s2048" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="This photo shows a christmas tree draped with fairy lights with Exeter Cathedral as the backdrop" border="0" data-original-height="2048" data-original-width="1536" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEhlAy_s3Hdt5qAfuI1FAqVGI5OaNzRdWn0SL3TvnK2JOozL702fKvtkjB3kZO-RQNFemkUXDJnS0b4EEyiQnHV-xklFaqTnlerP5gHDo2DtC4VoEaRi6u-d2pXyi9DM6Ns5ywYdsiWxgqnfsu6WsBTrbfDdIz9qYzzijKPRt9D_MHgaWjldvKxnsEcs=s16000" title="Sustainable gift giving at Christmas" /></a></div><br /><div><br /></div><div><b>4. Avoid the temptation to buy tat.</b></div><div>Where there is Christmas, there is tat...so much tat. Christmas is an opportunity for companies to sell random stuff by calling it a stocking filler. I can guarantee you, your partner probably doesn't want a wallet ninja or another deodorant gift set. These Christmas gift sets often seem like a good idea but usually they are just overpriced tat. If you find yourself drawn to something, think to yourself - "could I spend this money on a gift that's just as nice but from an independent brand?" and 9 times out 10, the answer is usually yes.</div><div><br /></div><div><b>5. Shop Secondhand.</b></div><div>There's no reason you need to shop new for Christmas gifts. This holiday is supposed to be about giving so why not try and pick up some gifts in your local charity shop - this way your money goes towards a good cause. Books are a particularly great thing to buy secondhand! Check out my guide on the <a href="https://www.amyleehaynes.co.uk/2020/11/secondhand-online.html" target="_blank">Best Places to Shop Secondhand</a> online for inspiration!</div><div><br /></div><div>With all this being said, Christmas can be a difficult and stressful time and sometimes shopping 100% sustainably might not be achievable. However, I think if we're able to, we should try our best to adapt sustainable shopping habits this festive season.</div><div><br /></div><div><b>What are your sustainable gift giving tips?</b></div><div><b><br /></b><div>

The first thing that often springs to mind when we think of sustainable fashion is ditching your fast fashion filled wardrobe and replacing it more eco friendly brands which aren't always affordable. However, there are plenty more simple ways to build a sustainable that don't cost a penny. </div><div><br /></div><div><b><u>Wear what you have</u></b> </div><div>The most sustainable thing you can do when it comes to fashion is to <b>wear what you already own. </b>You don't need to go out and replace all your fast fashion items with sustainable replacements. Give life to what you already have. I find that the best way to do this is to have a try on session and get creative with new outfit ideas to inspire you to keep rewearing what's already hung up. </div><div><br /></div><div><b><u>Care for your Clothes</u></b></div><div>By caring for your clothes, you are prolonging their lifespan. This allows you to get more wear out your clothes and prevents you from having to replace them regularly. There are plenty of ways you can look after what's in your wardrobe including washing it correctly and making repairs to damaged clothing. <b><a href="http://www.amyleehaynes.co.uk/2020/05/caring-for-your-clothes.html" target="_blank">Check out my Ultimate Guide to Caring for your Clothes for more tips!</a></b></div><div><br /></div><div><b><u>Donate/sell/pass on clothes no longer worn</u></b></div><div>There will come times when you fall out of love with certain pieces of clothing and that's okay - there's no point in letting it sit in your wardrobe if you have no intention of wearing it again. If it's time to say goodbye to a particular piece, pass it on. I'd recommend offering your unloved clothing to friends and family or try selling on Depop or Vinted before sending it to the charity shop. Did you know that not all clothing that is donated to charity shops is sold in the UK? <a href="https://www.fashionrevolution.org/where-does-clothing-end-up-modern-colonialism-disguised-as-donation/" target="_blank">A large portion of it is shipped elsewhere around the globe, particularly developing countries.</a> So if you are able to, try and use charity shops as a last resort. This is why all of their products contain between 97-100% natural and organic ingredients and are free from toxins, parabens, phthalates, sodium lauryl sulfate and GM ingredients. </div><div><br /></div><div>I've never really been sure what my skin type is and I feel like it fluctuates so I took the Urban Veda skin type quiz/Dosha test to find out. The quiz then suggests recommended products and these were the products that were sent to me that are now part of my everyday morning skincare routine.</div><div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjNtDb-67RZp0w2hl1t3Fu7S92ctedgIRIElAMCKBp5SV-ITZVL3cHM1hA7uQVmZtN_FZss_J9OlVVPCoPeEgrgoxJh8dDuPm8EfHa-1RUD5_m5i_lWxv9IoliocqiTBKOiB0OWcA1q7x8/s2048/vegan-skincare.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2048" data-original-width="1248" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjNtDb-67RZp0w2hl1t3Fu7S92ctedgIRIElAMCKBp5SV-ITZVL3cHM1hA7uQVmZtN_FZss_J9OlVVPCoPeEgrgoxJh8dDuPm8EfHa-1RUD5_m5i_lWxv9IoliocqiTBKOiB0OWcA1q7x8/s16000/vegan-skincare.jpg" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div>I start the day by washing my face with the <a href="https://www.urbanveda.com/gb/product/daily-reviving-facial-wash/" target="_blank">Daily Reviving Facial Wash</a>. I always ensure to complete my morning skin care routine by smoothing on a layer of SPF to protect my skin throughout the day. First up this beautiful navy longline blazer which is an easy throw on jacket. Keeping with the navy theme, these straight leg jeans, originally from Uniqlo, are from <a href="https://whiterosefashion.com/" target="_blank">White Rose Fashion</a>, which is an excellent place to find <a href="http://www.amyleehaynes.co.uk/2021/03/online-secondhand-tips.html" target="_blank">secondhand items online</a>. I didn't want to look to smart so I threw on my bargain trainers which I picked up from vinted. Let me tell you, they were <i>so white </i>when I bought them but it's nothing that tramping around the Quantock Hills can't fix.</p><p> I hope everyone is having a great summer! <br /></p><table style="text-align: center;">

</td></tr></tbody></table> </p><p>Spring is around the corner and you might be looking to pick up a few new additions to your wardrobe from <a href="https://www.depop.com/amyleehaynes/">Depop</a>, <a href="https://www.vinted.co.uk/member/7245806-amyleehaynes" target="_blank">Vinted </a>or any other <a href="http://www.amyleehaynes.co.uk/2020/11/secondhand-online.html" target="_blank">online secondhand shops</a>. Some of these places can be a bit daunting as there's <b>so much stuff </b>to browse through and it's often hard to find the hidden gems. </p><p><br />I have managed to snap up some great secondhand pieces recently, particularly on Vinted including some brand new Weekday jeans and brand new sportswear. Here are my top tips for shopping secondhand online.</p><p><b>1. Have an Idea of What You're Looking For. <br /></b></p><p>Before you start aimlessly browsing make sure you have an idea of what you want. Make a <a href="https://www.pinterest.co.uk/amyleehaynes/" target="_blank">pinterest </a>board with outfit inspiration and make a note of any pieces that keep popping up. This will save you from endlessly scrolling and will prevent any spontaneous and wasteful purchases.<br /></p><p>For example, I really into white straight leg jeans at the moment. I then had a look on some fast fashion websites to find a pair that I wanted and settled on the Weekday Rowe or Voyage jeans. From then on, every week I searched for them on Depop and Vinted until a pair in my size and within my price range popped up. I managed to get a brand new pair of Weekday Voyage Jeans for £15 (RRP £40). </p><p><b>2. Use the Filters </b></p><p>Repeat after me - "The filters are your friend!". When shopping on Depop and Vinted I <b>always </b>use the filters. I hate finding the perfect item and then realising that it's the wrong size. You can narrow down your search by size, colour and brand to find the items that you will love and again stop you from endlessly scrolling.</p><p><b>3. Make a List of Brands and Styles that Match Your Aesthetic </b></p><p>I am really enjoying a very classic, minimalistic and neutral sort of style at the moment. Brands that would usually sell clothes in this style are Arket, Cos, &Other Stories etc. so I simply search for those brands (in my size as per tip no. 2 of course) and see what's available. </p><p><b>4. Have Patience </b></p><p>This is <i>the </i>most important tip. If you can't find the exact item you want straight away, you need to have some patience and try again next week. Shopping more sustainably is a much slower process but worth it in the end. If you can't find the <i>exact </i>pair of jeans you want but find a pair that's okay rather than perfect, I'd advise that you wait. Chances are if the item isn't perfect because let's say it's the wrong size, chances are it's going to get shoved to the back of your wardrobe and forgotten about.<b> </b><br /></p><p><b>5. Don't be Afraid to Message the Seller</b></p><p>So you've found the perfect piece but there's only one picture. Or maybe you want to know what the item looks like on. Just send a message to the seller and most of the time they're happy to help!</p><p><b>6. Do Some Research</b></p><p>It's becoming more and more common for sellers to sell items for ridiculous prices such as a worn primark dress for £15. Check the brand and do a bit of research to ensure you're not getting ripped off. </p><p><b>7. Pay Through the App/Website</b></p><p>Some sellers may ask you to pay via Paypal or bank transfer to avoid seller fees but please please try and pay through the app as some dodgy sellers use this method in order to scam people. If you pay through the app, you will be covered for buyer protection meaning if they are trying to scam you, you won't lose your money.</p><p><b> </b><br /></p><h3 style="text-align: left;">Do you have any tops for shopping secondhand online? Leave them in the comments!<br />

I know what you're thinking - "how could you possibly need animal products to produce wine?". <p></p><p><b>Why isn't all Wine Suitable for Vegans?</b> <br /></p><p>Wine isn't vegan because of step in the fermentation process called <b>fining. </b>This process is all about removing unwanted elements in the wine which may effect the appearance and taste of the final product. During this process, <b>a product which usually consists of egg whites and milk casein</b> is added to the wine. This then binds to the unwanted product, allowing it to be easily removed. </p><p>Winemakers producing vegan wine instead use plant based products during the fining process or don't do it at all which results in a wine that looks cloudy as the sediment hasn't been removed. </p><p><b></b></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><b><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgarl2iAfX2hrSXIsWdG25p4kYOu51mkPFNMi5UhLHHWpDS1urI3yOOxfEnCL2hnevu98jaBQ5_-U7lNcszVv3ZZEZpHhMa4-KcpB5ImXwubvLml1oq0L7Li_U7i8hCzwlhmP5it9udLs0/s2048/1.JPG" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2048" data-original-width="1537" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgarl2iAfX2hrSXIsWdG25p4kYOu51mkPFNMi5UhLHHWpDS1urI3yOOxfEnCL2hnevu98jaBQ5_-U7lNcszVv3ZZEZpHhMa4-KcpB5ImXwubvLml1oq0L7Li_U7i8hCzwlhmP5it9udLs0/s16000/1.JPG" /></a></b></div><b><br />How to Find Vegan Wines</b> <br /><p></p><p>You might think that vegan wines are only available from specialist wine shops or expensive organic independent brands but it is actually much more accessible than you think. <br /></p><p>Vegan wine is becoming more and more common however it's hard to figure out which wines are vegan and which ones are not. <i>Usually </i>(but not always) non-vegan wine will state on the label that it may contain egg and milk products and more often than not vegan wines will show some variation of a 'suitable for vegans logo' on the label but not always. I know, annoying right?</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhmiYe1md6-IO53AzGLyndepQLTvb1ATAyWiz6zDZM1YY2K0jbZrTyoArepCEH1HFU9OaiuopCJHkm324_4GRd7MUK5tu33AEw66ohOM4nmTzr7R0up_NLEUUIrCDyhV1mOMCfcRV185Ec/s2048/2.JPG" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2048" data-original-width="1536" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhmiYe1md6-IO53AzGLyndepQLTvb1ATAyWiz6zDZM1YY2K0jbZrTyoArepCEH1HFU9OaiuopCJHkm324_4GRd7MUK5tu33AEw66ohOM4nmTzr7R0up_NLEUUIrCDyhV1mOMCfcRV185Ec/s16000/2.JPG" /></a></div> <p></p><p>If it's not always stated on the label or made obvious in the supermarket it gets frustrating having to quickly google "is X wine vegan" in a shop with terrible wifi and 4g signal. <b>I personally prefer to look online before I go to the supermarket and simply search 'vegan wine' and make a list of options to look out for or even take screen shots of the vegan options to make the shopping experience much easier. </b></p><p>Alternatively, here's a list of my tried and tested vegan wines. There are more vegan options at each store but I have not had the chance to try <i>every single vegan wine </i>but these are the ones I have tried and enjoyed! This includes your glasses cleaner which always comes in a little plastic bottle, which usually somehow disappears into thin air (probably hiding with all my missing socks) or you end up throwing it away once you've used it all. </div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;">The team over at Frugal and Green have created a plastic free glasses cleaner for all of us spectacle wearing planet lovers. The bottle is made out durable glass and aluminum and as little plastic as possible. The solution itself is also eco-friendly as it doesn't contain any harmful chemicals. </div><div style="text-align: justify;"> </div><div style="text-align: justify;"><b>How Does it Work?</b></div><div style="text-align: justify;">You simply fill the bottle with water and pop in one of the little blue tabs and watch it dissolve. Once it's fully absorbed into the water, simply use it like you would any other glasses cleaner. </div><div style="text-align: justify;"> </div><div style="text-align: justify;">I've been using it for a little while now and it really does the job. You know that feeling of when you clean your glasses and put them back on and suddenly, you can <i>actually </i>see again. It gives you that feeling every time. </div><div style="text-align: justify;"> </div><div style="text-align: justify;"><b>Suitable for All Lenses</b></div><div style="text-align: justify;">Whether you want to use this on your prescription glasses and sunglasses or non-prescription lenses - it is suitable and wont cause any damage to coated lenses.<br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;"> </div><div style="text-align: justify;"><b>Lasts for 5 Years?</b></div><div style="text-align: justify;">You receive 50 tabs for 50 refills which Frugal and Green suggest should last you about 5 years. With the kit being approximately £25 it makes it great value for money in the long run. Although it must be noted that not everyone would be able to make that initial investment but if you can, it's a fantastic idea. <br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><b> </b><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;">If you're always looking for more sustainable and plastic free solutions, I'd recommend checking out Frugal and Green for a more environmentally friendly glasses cleaning option. They are a bit snug so would suggest possibly sizing up if you're in between sizes.<br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"> </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">I did notice that their sizes only go up to a size XL (size 14-16) meaning that those who are size 16+ aren't able to shop there which is not great for making the brand inclusive of all sizes.<br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;"> </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">I discussed my concerns with Boody as <b>a lack of inclusive sizing is a huge barrier in making more sustainable clothing accessible to all.</b> They have informed me that their Classic Bikini Briefs and Padded Shaper bras will be available in 2XL and 3XL in 2021 and have plans to expand the size range of other items. I will be keeping an eye on their products and will post updates on this post when more sizes are available. It would be great to see Boody follow through with their plans and offer an affordable and size inclusive range of of sustainable clothing.<br /></div>

Carbon offsetting is a popular way compensate and counteract for your carbon footprint. Usually, the best way to do this is to make some kind of investment in a project that will reduce emissions equivalent to those you create. What if I told you that you could do this buy purchasing a climate neutral t-shirt?</p><p>London based creative company, <a href="https://www.20-something.com/" target="_blank">20something</a> have recently launched <a href="https://www.anothertee.xyz/" target="_blank">another tee</a> which offsets the carbon emissions of the average European individual. The idea behind another tee is to popularise offsetting our carbon emissions and make it more accessible to everyday person.<br /></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><b><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgJ54Y32ANY4pqvzqIdl9xE7vxPNKv7OAbZrbsNr-O8l65fwaO5f8wKmvfebB7WNEhi7sAXrsCaE7W16XAuZGt1tiubuWPZBWT4AVYsJi8u8_qKfVU1330rwFdGDGDSdEypz7mSmCyrlTU/s2048/anothertee-sustainable-tshirt.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2048" data-original-width="1365" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgJ54Y32ANY4pqvzqIdl9xE7vxPNKv7OAbZrbsNr-O8l65fwaO5f8wKmvfebB7WNEhi7sAXrsCaE7W16XAuZGt1tiubuWPZBWT4AVYsJi8u8_qKfVU1330rwFdGDGDSdEypz7mSmCyrlTU/s16000/anothertee-sustainable-tshirt.jpg" /></a></b></div><b><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiCTpnOwfl30KbSyNAX4F54Bxk6JWvrSSwebsBydfqIuPmEZG4HMUS2FSojxhjSwdP4sbs3sulqNNppIytz8RI1F-PhyiWTqIKpjg8hoYGxtunmrWBaHGkIfv9YC3hXu8dMnXa1H_RLBSs/s2048/IMG_7899.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2048" data-original-width="1365" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiCTpnOwfl30KbSyNAX4F54Bxk6JWvrSSwebsBydfqIuPmEZG4HMUS2FSojxhjSwdP4sbs3sulqNNppIytz8RI1F-PhyiWTqIKpjg8hoYGxtunmrWBaHGkIfv9YC3hXu8dMnXa1H_RLBSs/s16000/IMG_7899.jpg" /></a></div></b><b> </b><p><span style="color: #b45f06;"><b>How do they do it?</b></span><br /></p><p><b>The average individual in the EU creates approximately 7000kg of carbon emissions per year.</b> For every £39 t-shirt that's purchased, the company plants 24 mangroves. Mangroves <a href="https://www.unenvironment.org/news-and-stories/story/surfers-ride-wave-ocean-action-myanmar-blue-forest" target="_blank">5 times more effective </a>at sequestering carbon than tropical land forests and are able to able to absorb around 308kg of carbon throughout its lifetime. By planting these mangroves, it will offset the carbon created by the average person in the EU for a year. <br /></p><p>Alternatively, if you are able to do so, you can pay £3600 which plants 4600 mangroves and will offset your carbon emissions for life. However, the team at <a href="https://www.anothertee.xyz/" target="_blank">anothertee</a> are aware this isn't accessible for all hence why they offer the ability to offset yearly instead.</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjlju_xoCYtqQpvXnzSyI3Hf789YIaL1QE5ZvaoePbVwpA_nUupMdgn3Zufnq1XZu72x_R8dN0m88OBpYAUXfG-ZQdOkaYKEhwUgyAL-4BzCdnY6iiwLEId6dF_V3-uiD3bY-XV9zmI2Mc/s2048/IMG_7912.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2048" data-original-width="1365" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjlju_xoCYtqQpvXnzSyI3Hf789YIaL1QE5ZvaoePbVwpA_nUupMdgn3Zufnq1XZu72x_R8dN0m88OBpYAUXfG-ZQdOkaYKEhwUgyAL-4BzCdnY6iiwLEId6dF_V3-uiD3bY-XV9zmI2Mc/s16000/IMG_7912.jpg" /></a></div>The t-shirt itself is super comfy and of course carbon neutral too. T-shirts are 100% Indian combined cotton and are made in facilities powered by renewable green energy and are made to order, meaning no excess produce that could potentially end up in landfill. Production also undergoes annual audits in order to comply with the <a href="https://www.fairwear.org/" target="_blank">Fair Wear Foundation</a> code of labour practices which suggests that the factories are also ethical.<p></p><p>If you're thinking of trying to offset your carbon emissions but not sure how, <a href="https://www.instagram.com/anothertees/" target="_blank">anothertee</a> is a great starting point and you get a carbon neutral t-shirt to remind you of a green action you have taken! <br /></p><table style="text-align: center;">

Sometimes I seem to just throw my phone on the floor or it leaps out of my hands as if by magic so a new phone case was very important. Instead of buying another cute yet completely made of plastic phone case, I looked for one that was a bit more sustainable. <div><br /></div><div>There's a huge range of biodegradable and sustainable phone cases out there. They are usually made from coffee grounds, cork or wheat straw. I decided to opt for one made out of wheat straw and TPU that's fully biodegradable. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgkSeXaVx5eTRuFgs8UybfBrZVQ7CR_XZ1YvDGi3KCAdM7U5X4ivMjcQe7Gj5fZVg0jjwKeyNX4UEL-Z5nLtx7M2U6wQORhtPIblAbhBkw8m_Puyp6ia9rW4YGyldNholgbJIZHIKNTI3k/s2048/eco-friendly-phone-case-eplanita.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2048" data-original-width="1365" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgkSeXaVx5eTRuFgs8UybfBrZVQ7CR_XZ1YvDGi3KCAdM7U5X4ivMjcQe7Gj5fZVg0jjwKeyNX4UEL-Z5nLtx7M2U6wQORhtPIblAbhBkw8m_Puyp6ia9rW4YGyldNholgbJIZHIKNTI3k/s16000/eco-friendly-phone-case-eplanita.jpg" /></a></div><div>I purchased the <a href="https://www.eplanita.com/accessories" target="_blank">Eplanita biodegradable XR phone case in Khaki</a>. One major set back with this is not all of the Eplanita phone cases are available on their website but they are all available on Amazon. This kind of sucks since we all know that <a href="https://socialjusticebooks.org/about/why-boycott-amazon/" target="_blank">Amazon's ethics and morals are not exactly great</a> so it's not ideal that a sustainable brand is selling their items on there, especially when they have a perfectly good website of their own. However, I still made the purchase through Amazon since it was one of the only sustainable phone cases in my price range (£7.99). </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh5gWkDwVyUYSQN5yksl9TtwwHWGt_CjBC9kbKyaQCZyY0L6Bf0L3WSRbHEcokDpzPO0YOX3_6iE3qEWzQ3sHe301yYnyr_xEkr_s1EqUfBpCiM5VzmHCeO2YF34Fk_RDVjfSallyE2SVg/s2048/eplanita-review.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1365" data-original-width="2048" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh5gWkDwVyUYSQN5yksl9TtwwHWGt_CjBC9kbKyaQCZyY0L6Bf0L3WSRbHEcokDpzPO0YOX3_6iE3qEWzQ3sHe301yYnyr_xEkr_s1EqUfBpCiM5VzmHCeO2YF34Fk_RDVjfSallyE2SVg/s16000/eplanita-review.jpg" /></a></div><div>There is also no mention of who made the product or where it was made, meaning there's no guarantee that just because the product is sustainable that it's <b>ethical</b> too. This is definitely something I wish I'd considered when making the purchase. </div><div><br /></div><div>Other than this I am pleased with the phone case as it's sturdy enough to protect my phone from my undoubted clumsiness, it looks nice and I know that it won't sit in landfill when I'm done with it. Their website says "the iPhone case will only start the degradation process once under the soil or in a commercial compost".</div><div><br /></div><div>If you don't want to support Amazon, then I'd suggest looking for an alternative brand such as <a href="https://www.wavecase.co.uk/shop" target="_blank">Wave</a>, a UK based brand that sells phone cases also made out of wheat straw but these are slightly more pricey at £15. If you don't mind using Amazon or a company that supports it then Eplanita might be for you!</div><div><br /></div><div><br /><table style="text-align: center;">

Despite my commitment to second hand fashion, I wanted my new basic tee to be new to ensure that it was still looking fresh. I decided to have a look into buying one from a sustainable brand. However, it came as no surprise to me that a new t-shirt from an ethical and sustainable brand made from eco friendly materials was not going to be cheap or affordable for me, particularly since I am currently unemployed. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;"><b><br /></b></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;"><b>This is something that is very frustrating about sustainable fashion - it's simply not accessible for all. Whether it's the hefty price tag or limited sizing range, it's not exactly feasible for everyone to shop from sustainable brands. </b></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">Despite this, I continued with my search and came across <a href="https://rapanuiclothing.com/" target="_blank">Rapanui Clothing</a>. The founders, Mart and Rob, have been worried about the vast amounts of waste on our planet since they were very young and so set up Rapanui Clothing in order to try and combat waste in the fashion industry. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">Their products are made from natural, organic materials and are made using renewable energy. The organic cotton use for their products is grown in Northern India where the monsoon season fills reservoirs which provides all the water needed to grow the thirsty crop. They aim to have a circular supply chain, meaning that once your clothing has been worn out, you can send it back and the fabric will be recycled into something else. <b>This is an important factor of sustainable fashion. The designer and manufacturers should be responsible for products from their creation to the end of the garment's life. </b>This is the exact approach that Rapanui Clothing takes and you can see what happens at each step of the process, from growing the cotton to postage, on their <a href="https://rapanuiclothing.com/the-journey/" target="_blank">website</a>.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">They also take responsibility during the manufacturing process of their materials. The clothing industry is well known for dumping toxic wastewater into nearby rivers. However, at the Teemill factories where their products are made the water is recovered, cleaned and recirculated. Once it's been through this process, it is <i>literally </i>clean enough to drink. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">Another great thing about the brand is that each t-shirt is made to order, meaning that they don't have bulk stock that isn't going to sell and ultimately end up in landfill. <b>They only make what is actually needed. </b></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;"><b><br /></b></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">They also give you the opportunity to create your own <a href="https://rapanuiclothing.com/design-your-own-tee/" target="_blank">t-shirt designs</a> and store with <a href="https://teemill.com/">Teemill</a>. by doing this you are given access to their technology and materials, meaning they will help you build your own sustainable t-shirt store. Pretty cool huh?</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">I am really happy that I found out about Rapanui Clothing since they make sustainable, ethical clothing more affordable and I love the transparency of their brand. They really are setting a good example for the fashion industry. <i>And, </i>they don't just sell t-shirts they also sell hoodies, sweatshirts, shirts, beanies, plastic free jackets, underwear and more. I particularly like the idea of their <a href="https://rapanuiclothing.com/collection/womens-bundles/" target="_blank">bundles</a>, containing a few different items at a discounted price. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEghZjfaJsUu_r_9e4QODkf6j50XONmVeo7iD89zMh2CN2BhKYllPCqouN6xCtszzjFuaxfuGBQ3h3WdtVpLs2qMyDUSHDoITclufKoI3bwZTAXkkEm9H2huNS0y0k4wB6O-0X0jPSOndng/s2048/second+hand+style.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2048" data-original-width="1536" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEghZjfaJsUu_r_9e4QODkf6j50XONmVeo7iD89zMh2CN2BhKYllPCqouN6xCtszzjFuaxfuGBQ3h3WdtVpLs2qMyDUSHDoITclufKoI3bwZTAXkkEm9H2huNS0y0k4wB6O-0X0jPSOndng/s16000/second+hand+style.jpg" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhKKpJQAxHBznZgsTt3TehfHU0RABd6BDmeBPPVluYAL-jr-Ra-FF-mccfclGNeWV-G4u52o-yowNPxUk7wt8sV4Q5HRG_Qfm3bVODj8CQ9Iw4vsrDCoCQSjvWS-CzejhHmaTGv-jkiYZs/s2048/secondhand+fashion.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2048" data-original-width="1536" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhKKpJQAxHBznZgsTt3TehfHU0RABd6BDmeBPPVluYAL-jr-Ra-FF-mccfclGNeWV-G4u52o-yowNPxUk7wt8sV4Q5HRG_Qfm3bVODj8CQ9Iw4vsrDCoCQSjvWS-CzejhHmaTGv-jkiYZs/s16000/secondhand+fashion.jpg" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjc6xfgKiJjN9PxHKth9pisFF2fE9PYWLyjFxa1fS_L4KQGoz7GH8Dp7jBUV8BgxXfad9Fq3JlWoSp6hliahnAqGNCaM0nGEETq7WZTgdQdxwfKYVfOql-2JxKL3J6MX8mzQS1MpcTktbs/s2048/thrifted+fashion.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2048" data-original-width="1536" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjc6xfgKiJjN9PxHKth9pisFF2fE9PYWLyjFxa1fS_L4KQGoz7GH8Dp7jBUV8BgxXfad9Fq3JlWoSp6hliahnAqGNCaM0nGEETq7WZTgdQdxwfKYVfOql-2JxKL3J6MX8mzQS1MpcTktbs/s16000/thrifted+fashion.jpg" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhkpq4idMNNMBD8KkifvWAqkrFZS7tObGKMIecP4cD4xVlq7IAbIFdP0FeDyz5-P0Knvc6sq51Qxmp8GKC3j6TmUMiQXPMXbUJrBoz8kyPRKn0w37wVZZYVIKagWCVQacoaHoiTbFfAyug/s2048/charity+shop+finds.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2048" data-original-width="1536" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhkpq4idMNNMBD8KkifvWAqkrFZS7tObGKMIecP4cD4xVlq7IAbIFdP0FeDyz5-P0Knvc6sq51Qxmp8GKC3j6TmUMiQXPMXbUJrBoz8kyPRKn0w37wVZZYVIKagWCVQacoaHoiTbFfAyug/s16000/charity+shop+finds.jpg" /></a></div><br />Amyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13232363323787801834noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6089973241277741889.post-17050487329887684032020-08-15T05:50:00.000+01:002020-08-15T05:50:14.078+01:008 Female Hosted Podcasts to Listen to When You Want to Feel Motivated and Inspired<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj_DxG2qRqGSRvxxBzXgGMW2MpnHqUOIe58WZSaTChZHa8s7w163Gs-9WkTMkeWCaMs-h6p2fDxCklhTgZppWEHLNIpWAsGmUa2EdGjBM0GFt2fvLB5ZwyRPBbrJWCx_DqgdodDlqQxCR4/s2048/IMG_7610.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1365" data-original-width="2048" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj_DxG2qRqGSRvxxBzXgGMW2MpnHqUOIe58WZSaTChZHa8s7w163Gs-9WkTMkeWCaMs-h6p2fDxCklhTgZppWEHLNIpWAsGmUa2EdGjBM0GFt2fvLB5ZwyRPBbrJWCx_DqgdodDlqQxCR4/d/IMG_7610.JPG" /></a></div>I don't know about you but all I am obsessed with podcasts at the moment. They are all I listen to, especially when I am working. But rather than listen to podcasts that simply fill the time and provide me with some background noise, I'm opting for ones that leave me feeling motivated and inspired. From activism to self confidence, I'm listening to it <b>ALL</b>.<div><br /></div><div>Here's my top 8 podcasts to listen to when you want to feel inspired and motivated and what's even better is that they <b>are all hosted by female presenters. </b></div><div><br /></div><div><i><b>Gurls Talk </b> presented by Adwoa Aboah. </i>This is probably my <b>favourite </b>podcast at the moment. Learning from her personal experiences with mental health, activist and supermodel Adwoa Aboah founded Gurls Talk - a judgement free platform for women to share their own experiences. On this podcast you can expect to hear people talk about their experiences of various situations from sexuality and confidence to grief and depression - no topic is too taboo for this podcast. I particularly love the 'Gurls Take Action' section of the podcast where the guest provides listeners with an action that they can do to make a difference. </div><div><b>Favourite Episodes:</b> <a href="https://gurlstalk.libsyn.com/ep-43-adwoa-and-afua-hirsch-discuss-the-nuances-of-biracial-identity-the-power-of-language-and-the-insidious-nature-of-britains-brand-of-anti-black-racism">With Afua Hirsch</a>, <a href="https://gurlstalk.libsyn.com/ep-17-adwoa-talks-migration-and-choosing-love-as-we-hear-from-the-incredible-refugees-whose-stories-we-all-need-to-hear">Migration & Choosing Love</a>, <a href="https://gurlstalk.libsyn.com/ep-3-julia-samuel-amy-green-and-professor-green">How to Live with Loss ft. Professor Green</a><br /><div><br /></div><div><b>How to Fail with Elizabeth Day </b>Another absolute favourite of mine is How to Fail. In this podcast Elizabeth Day invites various celebrities to discuss their failures. The premise of the podcast is discussing learning how to fail and what this has taught us about figuring out how to succeed - essentially finding the positives in the negative experiences in life. </div><div><b>Favourite Episodes: </b><a href="https://howtofail.podbean.com/e/how-to-fail-phoebe-waller-bridge-1531470141/">Phoebe Waller Bridge</a>.<a href="https://podcasts.apple.com/gb/podcast/s4-ep4-how-to-fail-mo-gawdat/id1407451189?i=1000436244962"> Mo Gawdat</a>, <a href="https://howtofail.podbean.com/e/how-to-fail-deborah-frances-white/">Deborah Frances-White</a></div><div><br /></div><div><b>Nobody Panic </b><i>Presented by Stevie Martin & Tessa Coates </i>If you are desperately bumbling through life and feel like you need a tutorial in adulthood then <i>Nobody Panic </i>is for you. It's essentially a how to guide of how to do everything you think you should already know. Like how to make small talk, how to concentrate and how to deal with the news without crying (help) - it's everything you need to know. I have pretty much been binge listening to this since January and I'm STILL NOT BORED. </div><div><b>Favourite Episodes: </b><a href="https://play.acast.com/s/nobodypanic/howtobreakupwithfastfashion-withlaurenbravo">How to Break Up with Fast Fashion</a>, <a href="https://play.acast.com/s/nobodypanic/howtobelieveinyourself-">How To Believe in Yourself</a>, <a href="https://play.acast.com/s/nobodypanic/howtounderstandwine">How to Understand Wine</a> (fun fact: I listened to this whilst harvesting pinot noir grapes in New Zealand during lockdown how suave...but also who <i>actually </i>understands what a <i>youthful </i>wine is?????)</div><div><br /></div><div><b>Might Delete Later </b><i>Presented by Gina & Stevie Martin </i>I spent the latter half of 2019 praying that Gina Martin would bring out a podcast and low and behold 2020 did not disappoint (well not on that front anyway). In <i>Might Delete Later </i>Stevie & Gina chat to their guests about their social media presence discussing their first posts, best posts and worst posts. Sounds a bit trivial on the surface but they usually get into some relatively ~deep~ topics. </div><div><b>Favourite Episodes: </b><a href="#" id="https://podcasts.apple.com/gb/podcast/ep-3-nish-kumar/id1500430715?i=1000477509147" name="https://podcasts.apple.com/gb/podcast/ep-3-nish-kumar/id1500430715?i=1000477509147">Nish Kumar</a>, <a href="https://podcasts.apple.com/gb/podcast/ep-5-phil-wang/id1500430715?i=1000479516411">Phil Wang</a>, <a href="https://podcasts.apple.com/gb/podcast/ep-6-rose-matafeo/id1500430715?i=1000481728737">Rose Matafaeo</a></div><div><br /></div><div><b>Slay in Your Lane </b><i>presented by Yomi Adegoke and Elizabeth Uviebinené </i>In this recent discovery Yomi & Elizabeth look at recent news topics and popular culture to provide their opinions and insights. The two are also Award Winning authors of their book by the same title and have put out some bonus episodes on how to write and publish a book which is worth a listen for all budding authors. </div><div><b>Favourite Episodes: </b><a href="https://podcasts.apple.com/gb/podcast/slay-in-your-lane-the-podcast/id1507952186">Will & Jada's Open Marriage and the Boohoo Scandal</a>, <a href="https://podcasts.apple.com/gb/podcast/adult-milestones-and-the-influencer-pay-gap/id1507952186?i=1000478574870">Adult Milestones & the Influencer Pay Gap</a>, <a href="https://podcasts.apple.com/gb/podcast/cambridge-go-online-is-imitation-sincerest-form-flattery/id1507952186?i=1000475368664">Cambridge Go Online & Is Imitation the Sincerest Form of Flattery? </a></div><div><br /></div><div><b>Fringe of It </b><i>presented by Olivia Purvis & Charlotte Jacklin </i>Liv and Charlotte describe <i>The Fringe of It </i>as "two out of touch early grandma's navigating through millennial life & watching a lot of TV". This can occur due to unsafe or unhealthy work conditions where no regulations exist (or are enforced) for poor workers, or in neighbourhoods that are uncomfortably close to toxic materials." - <a href="https://courses.lumenlearning.com/alamo-sociology/chapter/reading-environmental-racism/" target="_blank">Lumen Learning Sociology Course</a></i></div><div style="text-align: left;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjtTWw4jk96CHTO0wRX2PRA15SALTWqlR_WANwcSBVv5zubJ7K6SvqpN4vnxvUJYFx520mn1GIlCUHAKVsaqrKqNcThRVQDzY7negL5L771Xsei7owNvG7tZfBqTOLh9oP5D_Gn0V8uwJA/s1080/What+is+environmental+racism_.png" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1080" data-original-width="1080" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjtTWw4jk96CHTO0wRX2PRA15SALTWqlR_WANwcSBVv5zubJ7K6SvqpN4vnxvUJYFx520mn1GIlCUHAKVsaqrKqNcThRVQDzY7negL5L771Xsei7owNvG7tZfBqTOLh9oP5D_Gn0V8uwJA/w640-h640/What+is+environmental+racism_.png" width="640" /></a></div><div><br /><b><u>News Articles</u></b></div><div><ul style="text-align: left;"><li>Megan Mayhew Bergman, "'They chose us because we were rural and poor': when environmental racism and climate change collide" <i><a href="https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2019/mar/08/climate-changed-racism-environment-south" target="_blank">The Guardian</a></i></li><li>Ayana Elizabeth Johnson, "I’m a black climate expert.
