Style Inspiration #4

All images via Pinterest

It's getting to that awkward between the weirdo British summer and cold Autumn days and so I am in need of some inspiration. Now that I'm no longer revising my life away and haven't been since June, I have been pinning away and dreaming over outfits I don't have. This is what I've been loving recently.

Uni Checklist #2: The Dreaded Clothes Sort Out - 4 helpful tips

As the distance between me and going to uni shortens, the need to start sorting out my stuff is becoming more urgent. I have a lot of clothes and seeing as my room is going to be small, I wont have a lot of space so I really need to sort out my wardrobe before I go instead of taking crap I don't need. So here are some tips for sorting the tat.
Source: Pinterest
1. How often you do actually wear it? It might be pretty and yes it may have been a bargain but do you wear it? If the answer is no then get rid. I saw a tip in a magazine to help with this. Hang it in your wardrobe with the hanger the wrong way and after so long see what things are still the wrong way round. That's the stuff you don't wear.
2. Weather Believe it or not but you might not need to take your favourite summer dress and all of the denim shorts you own for the winter term because you probably wont wear it (unless your crazy and like being cold). Leave summer stuff at home and this way there's more room for jumpers.
3. Outfit Plan. Plan outfits you want to wear and this way you can what you really want to take and perhaps what you wont mind leaving behind.
4. If It's Tatty Let It Go. If it's got holes or it's bobbly or just a bit worn, get rid of it because you probably wont want to wear it if it's tatty.
These are tips I am going to have to force myself to follow and I hope they help you too. Do you have any tips?

Green Cashmere

Vintage Cashmere Cardigan
H&M Embellished Collar Shirt
Topshop Joni Jeans
Topshop All Sorts Boots

Yup I have started to layer already and with knitwear too but I love this cashmere cardigan that I got from a vintage fair a while back for just £3. Bargain. However since it's not a subtle colour it's hard to match with stuff as I don't like wearing too many colours so I tend to stick with black (obvs) and on this occasion white. Who would of thought it, me wearing a colour other than black. It's a miracle.

Topshop Wishlist

Oh Topshop how I love you so but your prices mean I can't buy all of these (or any atm) lovely things but I can dream can't I? I can see all the pretty outfits now that would look great whatever the weather. I particularly love the jeans and sweatshirt together. I really need to stop perusing on the Topshop website because it's giving me ideas on what I want to spend my student loan on and I haven't even got it yet.

Top 5 Places To Buy Affordable Homeware

Cactus, Milk Bottle and Flower - IKEA // Bowl and Lights - B&M // Bunny Lamp - Urban Outfitters
As of recent I have been on a bit of a homeware high and I love looking for new pieces but sometimes it all gets a bit expensive and I am left just wishing. However there are a handful of places that do amazing homeware items for just a fraction of the price and cheap homeware is something I have been looking for since preparing for uni.
B&M I don't think B&M is a shop that everyone has heard of and if you haven't then you should find your nearest one as they sell everything from food and beauty products to furniture and DIY but all at discounted prices. They do the loveliest 'shabby chic' inspired pieces such as these heart fairy lights for only £3.99. I have these arranged in a bowl also from B&M - a great combination.

Home Bargains This shop is very similar to B&M and they do the cutest vintage inspire pieces such as the bunny rabbit lamp that was in Urban Outfitters for £9 but at a fraction of the price at £1.99. I particularly love these vintage inspired storage crates.

The Range Oh how I love the Range. I can spend hours in there as well as a lot of money. Everything is arranged in terms of colour and style which makes it easier to buy matching items, which makes it so much easier to maintain the same style in a room. They have ornaments, candles, photo frames - you name it. I love how these photo frames look so much more expensive than they are.
Wilkinsons Wilko's home range keeps getting better and better and some of their pieces look really expensive. They are particularly good for those items that you really don't need but really want such as these coloured bottles. They are equally good for practical items such as duvets and pillows are they are much cheaper at wilko than everywhere else and just as good.
Ikea Last but most certainly not least is Ikea. Whilst some of there items are stupidly expensive, like why would you spend £50 on a rug? They also do a lot of affordable pieces both practical and non-practical. Their cactus collection is particularly impressive.
Where do you buy your affordable homeware?

Uni Checklist #1: Homeware & Where To Buy

I've been really excited to start doing 'ready for uni' type posts but I didn't want to do them too early as I was convinced that I would jinx my results but now I know I am going to uni here it goes. When you go to uni there's loads of stuff you need to get, especially if you're moving out and even more so if you're self catered. I've already bought most of my uni stuff so I thought I would give you a quick homeware checklist and where to get stuff without spending tonnes of money. I have also included links to some stuff that I have bought to give you an idea.
Where to buy: IKEA, ASDA, Wilko, Poundshop, B&M
  • Towels
  • Storage baskets
Where to buy: ASDA, Matalan (cheap towel bundles), the Range
  • Cushions
  • Blankets
  • Mirror
  • Rugs - uni room floors are never nice
  • Ornaments because why not?
  • Candles - you might not be allowed to burn them maybe try a infusion sticks
  • TV  but you may need to get a TV license
  • Fairy lights
  • Bin
Where to buy: B&M, the Range, IKEA, Home Bargains, Matalan, Primark

I think that is everything in terms of homeware and I think anything that I have missed will probably be either common sense or provided for you. All I need to buy is a bin for my bedroom and that is all. Make sure you keep your eyes peeled for offers and sales as you can get stuff for mega cheap!

Stripes & Red Lip

Primark Jacket
Primark Mom Jeans
H&M Sandals
Matalan Earrings
Recently the weather has been both warm and cold at the same time hence the jacket and sandal combination. It also means that I have no idea what to wear so I just shove on anything I feel like. I am really loving stripes at the moment. Everybody loves a striped top or 20 and they look particularly fab with a red lip but everybody knows that.

Life Update: Results Day

*warning - kinda lengthy post*
Although I have been posting regularly I have actually been a bit MIA with blogging since Thursday which seems like a lifetime ago. If you somehow missed all the action on Twitter and the rest of social media/the world, Thursday was A-Level results day. I have been worrying about results day since about May before I even did my exams so you can imagine what I was like on the day. But I opened the envelope and was greeted by *intense pause* A*ABB (history, psychology, RS, EPQ) and I was honestly so surprised. I convinced myself that I wasn't going to get an A in any of my subjects so an A* was just insane. However my firm uni choice, which was Bristol University, hadn't responded and didn't do until yesterday at around 3 when they told me that I didn't get in because I didn't get AAA even though I got the A* in history which is what I'm studying. However I am now a proud soon-to-be student at the University of West England studying history, meaning that soon I shall be moving to good old Bristol.
Now then, as for blogging we may have a teeny bit of an issue. I have found accommodation which is all good but my room is teeny tiny so I don't know whether I will be able to take outfit pictures that are any good. I will obviously have to wait and see. I have no intention of giving up blogging but it may be less regularly and/or not as good.
But anyway, I will stop my ramblings on and if you got this far then give yourself a pat on the back. Now I am going to wallow in self pity over my sore knee and ikky belly from last night's drunken escapades. I hope you all got the results you wanted! Are any of you going to UWE?

Topshop Denim Dress
Primark Statement Necklace
H&M Sandals

Finally I have people to take my pictures outside! It's really hard to take pictures inside, especially when none of the rooms in my house are that light and there are no decent backgrounds near windows. It's a hard life. Anyhow, I always forget how much I love this dress. I just shove it in my wardrobe and every now and again I put it on and fall in love all over again. I particularly like the how the bright blue goes with the pastels on my necklace which you can't see because it doesn't photograph well at all. I think this dress is going to stay with me for a long time.

Changing Prescription Glasses into Sunglasses

I finally took my own advice, as mentioned in my 'pale girl's guide to summer' post, and got some prescription sunglasses. Everywhere I have looked prescription sunglasses are always out of my price range as they tend to be around the £45+ mark. Instead I have always bought sunglasses with non-prescription lenses but of course I can never see out of them all that well so tend not to wear them.
However I recently discovered that you can get an old pair of prescription glasses tinted and with UV filters. Initially I went to Specsavers but it turns out they only tint glasses that have been purchased at Specsavers. Since mine were not I looked at local, independent opticians and took them to a place called 'Phillip Pratt'. They simply sent them away where they were tinted and then sent back, taking around 4 days and costing £20 which is £8 more expensive than Specsavers but still not a ridiculous price.
All you have to bear in mind is that if you take them to an opticians other than where you bought them from, they may struggle to take the lenses out in order to tint them. Wherever you take them will probably tell you that there is a risk that the frames or lenses breaking so I don't advise taking your favourite pair of glasses. Luckily mine didn't break and it was a risk worth taking.
And now I finally have a pair of sunglasses that are going to both protect my eyes and that I can see out of. Saying that now that I have them the sun has gone in and it's going to rain for a few weeks. Just my luck eh?

Charity Shop Shirt
New Look Jeans
Matalan Shoes (similar)
H&M Rings

I never thought I'd say this but I've been missing my jeans quite a lot since the weather has been nice so as soon as it went a few degrees cooler I whipped them back out but kept a summer vibe with a shirt and my new peep toe sandal shoe boot things which were a mere £12 in the sale. As nice as they are they aren't the comfiest things in the world but don't they look great?

The Nude Lip

Collection Work The Colour Lip Butter in the Shade Vintage Rose - £2.99
whenever I wear lipstick I always opt for something extravagant be it orange or dark red. I love wearing lipstick and I thought that it was about time that I got myself a nude lip for everyday use. I have heard a lot of ranting and raving about different lip crayons including the Clinique chubby stick and Revlon colorburst lacquer balm so when I saw this purse friendly option I thought why not give it a go.
When I first used it I realised that lip crayons are so much easier than lipstick because you can use it as you would a pen. I am forever making a mess of my lipstick so I need to invest in a few more crayons in loads of colours. The butter is really smooth and easy to apply and keeps your lips moisturised and doesn't dry them out as easily as other products. The colour doesn't really last all day so does need to be reapplied every now and again but generally it is pretty good for an every day nude lip.
Have you tried the Collection lip crayons? What do you think of them?

Sold His Soul To Punk

H&M Sex Pistols Tee (old)
Topshop Chiffon Midi Skirt
Primark Sandals
Bare Minerals Lipstick in Risk It All
Even though I have this tee for at least 3 years, it always manages to work its way into my summer wardrobe as it's so lightweight and comfy but still gives the whole 'band t-shirt' look. I think it helps make the skirt look less girly and formal giving a more relaxed vibe.
